Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens

Reviewed this lense's other reviews around various sites. I was fortunate to try a friends Canon EF70mm-300mm which is excellent, but could not afford the cost, so eventually went for the Canon EF55mm-250mm f4-f5.6 IS II. I have a canon Eos 1100D, with standard 18mm-55mm zoom lense and after much consideration decided the Canon EF 55mm-250mm zoom as the perfect partner my other lense. I wanted a bigger focal range for 5k Parkrun event, sports photograpy I do. After trying my friends lense I knew I was selecting the right focal length, but what was the optical quality going to be like as a result? The lense quality is incredible for the money. I'm on a tight budget for such accessories, and the comments I have received about my images with this lense are impressive. It's pin sharp, easily as good as the standard 18mm-55mm, and its every bit as fast also. The lense has an f4 aperure at the 55mm end (compared to f5.6 aperture on the standard lense at 55mm focal length setting) and f5.6 at 250mm, a perfect balanced match with no loss of speed or light. Its a lightweight lense compared to the 70mm-300mm I tried, so thats an advantage for hand held shots. Teamed up with the Canon 1100D body it has a lovely balance and its comfortable to use, giving excellent results when matched up with the Canon ET60 lense hood and a good monopod for sports my shots. So what if its a plastic mount, it's the optical/picture quality that you want a lense to provide. I would not hesitate to recommend this lense as an addition to the standard box kit 18mm-55mm. It's a no brainer, and a bargin for around £150!

Canon ET-60 Lens Hood For EF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6/2, /3, USM/2, USM/3, EF-S 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 IS

I know it doesn't say it does in the description, but I chanced it because I needed a hood and this is the original manufacturer's brand; so this is just to warn others, it doesn't fit the EF 70-300mm lens. The hood is a 3 lug fitting and the EF 70-300mm lens only has 2 lugs.

It does however fit the EFS 18-55mm and works well. I knocked it down a star because it's expensive for what it is and a bulky bit of plastic; I wish I'd got something collapsible. It twists on and copes with other filters being attached already, such as UV and Polarizing. Even with my sausage fingers I can get the lens cap on and off with this fitted (just). I just wish it fitted a broader range of canon lenses.

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III Lens

I purchased this lens as an addittion to the 18-55mm kit lens that comes with the Canon 300D. It complements the kit lens to give you a range that you can practice your creative arts with (expanding to big sunsets and most wildlife shots) and is a good price to start with.
More experienced photographers will want to save their cash for the EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM (or better), which is a fantastic lens, but almost 4x the price!
The EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 USM III is a bit soft at wide angle and is definately noticable at telephoto, being at the f/5.6 darker, slower side of the lens. For some shots (e.g. landscapes/sunsets/willing and "still" wildlife), using a tripod will yield the best results with this lens.
However, for all the amatures (including myself) that cannot (yet) justify the higher cost of Canon's superb L series lenses, this is a good starter addition that will at least allow you to capture moments and practice your compositon and camera use.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens

Excellent super-wide solution for EF-S mount

21 April 2007
By brainleek007
This lens was created to fill the hole in Canon's range for a super wide angle lens for their range of EF-S mount DSLR's.

Fortunately, since it inhabits a unique position in the range, it is a superb lens and there is no real alternative (from Canon anyway) that covers the same focal lengths.

It's not an L lens so don't expect weather sealing and and lens pouches/lens hoods in the box. Do expect a very well built lens with excellent image quality.

The lens has a very close minimum focusing distance of 24 cm which can be useful for odd effects at the wide end of things. The zoom and focusing rings are smooth and well placed. The lens takes huge filters (77mm) which can add a lot to the purchase price but should be considered essential as the front element is very convex and should be protected. A useful tip - get the slimmest filters you can for this lens as the lens is so wide angle standard filters will cut off the corners a fraction in the frame.

Image quality is excellent. DOF is almost a non issue with this lens as even at minimum aperture and focusing distances greater than close range everything seems to be in focus. There is no appreciable increase in sharpness when stopping down either like you get with some lenses. I leave mine at around f5.6 all the time because I read somewhere that this is the sweet spot for the lens (it's all sweet but apparently this is marginally sweeter). There is a little bit of colour fringing that can creep in for backlit subjects but nothing that can't be edited out and it's par for the course for a lens of this type. What is probably better than normal in terms of performance is the lens' control of flare which is very good. I haven't had flare in my shots even with the sun in the frame. There is no noticeable pincusion/barrel effect either. Solid performance all round.

So if you have an EF-S mount Canon there really are not many choices out there for a super wide lens. It's not the cheapest but it probably is the best out there right now

Best Nikon Lenses: Top 5 For Your Perfect Shot Every Time

By Sanjay S Kumar
Spring is right around the corner. That means that wedding season is constantly approaching and soon there will be a flood of customers for your photography company. However, Being the top photographer for the job requires both skills to catch the best shots, and an amazing lens to capture it with. Here is a list of the top 5 SLR lenses sure to impress even the most picky clients, or take amazing nature pictures.

1.Nikon 60mm f/2.8D AF Micro-Nikkor Lens
the first on the list may be the cheapest, but with the quality of every shot it takes, its one of the best lenses in its price range. This auto-focus lens has the ability to focus clearly to 1:1 life size reproduction ratio without breaking a sweat. This macro lens is definitely one of the best macro lenses in its price range, perfect for those photographers interested in taking shots of smaller items and insects to see even the smallest details in every shot.

2.Nikon 24mm f/2.8D AF Nikkor Lens
One of the best photographers from India mentioned this Nikon lens to me, and I must say If you are looking for a decent 24mm lens, then look no further. This auto-focusing lens comes equipped with Nikon's CRC floating element feature. It has amazing contrast and resolution and its performance is one of the best for taking shots of landscapes or interior designs. This is definitely a lens for those who want an excellent clear shot with little to no distortion.

3.Nikon 85mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens
If you are a fan of Steve McCurry's work, then this may be a lens for you as this is one of his favorite lenses. It brings amazing details to portrait shots and gives sharp shots to wide open areas as well. A thing to note about this is it is also relatively small and pretty light, but you can tell that this particular lens is built to last. The only downside to this lens is no auto-focus feature, but if you can get around that minor detail, then you have a winner on your hands.

4.Nikon 60mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Micro-Nikkor Lens
Don't be fooled by the specs on this lens claiming 7.2" minimal focus: This one is a winner for both close range and mid range shots. The images it takes are both incredibly sharp and have incredible detail to color reproduction. If you are interested in taking a lot of nature shots, this may be the lens for you.

5.Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens
If you have an extra thousand to splurge on a good camera lens, then look no further. This is absolutely one of the best Nikon lenses the company has to offer. Choosing the best camera is relatively easy but choosing the lens can be a difficult decision, but that's where this lens shines and never disappoints. Natural light shots explode in color with amazing detail and even though it may seem like it has a relatively frail feel to it, the amazing detail and clarity of the pictures can't be beat. If you can afford it, don't hesitate to give this lens a spin.

So this completes the list of some of the best Nikon lenses available and all for good reason. If you decide to purchase these lenses you won't be disappointed and your clients won't either as these beauties are built with quality in every detail and you should expect nothing less from Nikon. Just be prepared for some of your clients to be left in tears by the shots you deliver.

Nikon 50mm F1.8D AF Nikkor Lens

 21 Sep 2008
By Kevin Leah
I've been seduced by ultrazoom lenses and cameras over the years and I had forgotten how good photography felt when you move you body rather than zoom in and out with your lens.

The other reviews quite rightly highlight the excellent performance of the wide range of aperture settings from 1.8 to 22 so I don't want to repeat what they have said.

I've been using my D300 with an 18-200mm lens for most of the time - occasionally swapping for a wide angle 10-20mm lens when needed. Both are fairly heavy, but very versatile. The 50mm is the first prime lens I have used since I started digital photography some 7 years ago.
My whole attitude to the subject matter changes when I can't just zoom in and out, I find myself composing much more interesting shots. This has been a great addition for my DSLR.

50Mm 1.8 Canon Lens - Frequently Asked Questions From Potential Buyers

By John C. Carter

If you are looking to buy the 50mm 1.8 Canon lens, you may be like many other potential buyers and have many questions in mind. This article will hopefully answer some or all of your questions so you can make an informed decision before buying. You will also learn where to find good deals if you decide to buy this lens.

1. Would this lens be compatible with a Nikon D5000?
No, this lens would not be compatible with your Nikon, both physically and electronically. You would need to get the Nikon 50mm 1.8D AF Nikkor lens for Nikon DSLRs. However, mounting such a lens on a D5000 would limit you to manual focus only.

2. Would it work with Canon Rebel 2000?
Yes, all EF lens will be compatible with your Canon Rebel 2000. However, stay away from the EF-S series lenses, as the Rebel 2000 mirror may hit the rear element or it may result in certain degree of vignetting. Also, the EF-S lenses will not work on many EOS cameras, except on the Canon Digital Rebel line and the 30D through 60D.

In addition, all EF lens will work on Canon's EOS line of cameras. In fact, the EF series lenses were designed particularly for the EOS series of cameras.

3. Does it work with the Canon Rebel XTI?
Yes, the 50mm 1.8 Canon lens makes a great low light or portrait lens for the Rebel XTi. Also, the Canon Rebel XSi uses both EF and EF-S lenses, so this will work with the XSi and you will love the image quality you get from it. Note that the EF mounts are compatible with EF-S but not the other way around.

4. Can I use it with Canon Pro S3 IS?
No, as mentioned above, this lens has an EF mount, and it is compatible with Canon EOS line of cameras.

5. Is this a good lens for night-time shooting?
This lens is fantastic working under low-light conditions. It is excellent for capturing a band performing or musical performances, although it may not be suitable for fireworks or storms.
In general, the Auto Focus will have some difficulty under dark situations, such as lightning and fireworks. You can try manual focus if you really need to capture a picture when the light lasts very briefly. Another alternative is to auto- focus on something else that is about the same distance away as your subject. Then, shift the focus to manual and leave the dial alone. Stop down the aperture will also help.
To buy the 50mm 1.8 Canon lens, visit the Canon EF 50mm 1.8 site for great deals and more varieties.

Made my new camera sparkle

Made my new camera sparkle 14 April 2007

By R. BALCH
I've got a Canon 400D with the standard kit lens. It's OK but I was a little disappointed by the sharpness that it achieved. After quite a bit of reading up I'd heard so much good stuff about this relatively inexpensive lens that I decided to get one.

Most of my pictures are of my kids and many of them are indoors. This lens is great for portraits and because the aperture can be opened to 1.8 it gets enough light that flashless indoor pictures become feasible. The results are great. Nice, natural colours compared to the flash and as others have mentioned, the blurring of the distant background is very pleasing.

Having read that it had an old fashioned and noisy focus motor I was expecting something horrific which would cause people to look around if you were taking a picture in public. In reality it's marginally louder than the USM lenses and a little slower. We're talking 25% in my view. It's perfectly useable. In low light, manual focussing is preferable and is very easy. People also say the plastic housing is fragile. Well, if like me you've got a 400D with kit lens, it's not really any more plastic like than the either of those so don't be put off.

I've only had the lens one day and I've already taken some pictures which I'll treasure. Only downside of the lens is that at 50mm on a 1.6 ratio camera like the 400D it's a telephoto. In other words, you have to step back a bit to get everything in, so not ideal for indoor group shots. A 30mm lens would be better *but* the one I was looking at was three times more expensive and that's what swung it for this one.

Camcorder Vs Digital Camera

Camcorder Vs Digital Camera
By Manuel Zerna
58mm Flower Petal Camera Lens Hood for Canon EOS EFS 18-55mm EFS 55-250mm EF 70-300mm EF 50mm Lens

Good Lens: As others have noted this petal design is not suitable for the 18-55mm kit lens. Canon's own hood for this lens is round, not petal shaped, as in inherently required for lens with a rotating front element.

I'm not sure if its suitable for the others the seller lists either. A hood needs to be matched to the focal length (or range of lengths for a zoom), not just physically fit. Using a hood designed for the wrong focal length will either result in vignetting (dark corners) or not be as effective as it should be at reducing flare. Do yourself a favour, look up the correct hood as recommended by Canon for your lens. If you don't want to pay Canon's prices then use the model number to find a cheaper clone, just make sure its actually the correct shape, not just physically fits

Digital cameras made impressive advancement in the video recording world. Now you can buy still digital cameras, even DSLR cameras that feature HD recording. Therefore, you might be asking yourself why you need to use a camcorder by any means.
Besides keeping me hired, there are many good reasons why a camcorder remains the better option for recording in every life's reminiscences in movement.

Video Quality
Many digital cameras are featuring the 720p resolution, but few smaller ones will complement the much higher quality of 1080p recorded by average camcorders. If you wish that your kid's first step to appear sharp throughout the years (or otherwise till HDTVs are changed with something much better), you cannot surpass a devoted camcorder.
Even in the normal definition of video, the gulf in value could be essential. Standard definition camcorders can shoot video in a better bit rate compared to a conventional digital camera.
Lenses
The lens of the camcorder can give you a more powerful zoom, delivering better magnification. Even though there are numerous cameras that have long zooms available on the market, they cannot surpass the 30x or 60x lenses on a few camcorders.
Oftentimes, still digital camera lenses don't even work in recording a video. When they do, they won't work quietly, just like the lenses of a camcorder. When you are zooming and filming using a still digital camera, it is possible to remove the noises in the zoom in the course of recording.

Media Options
Still digital cameras record their video clips using memory cards. Camcorders also record to flash memory cards, however, they also can record to built-in hard disks that provide additional recording compared to your biggest space storage device. You can even save your video clips right to any DVD media for your ease of playback on the DVD players.

Audio
The built-in mics employed by camcorders are better than those on still digital cameras. You can find even more complex sound recording choices on camcorders also, like the power to zoom to the origin of a sound immediately. Several camcorders can also record multichannel audio sound.

Video Controls
Several sophisticated camcorders allow you to modify the viewpoint, the speed of the shutter and also the white balance to adjust the image. However, you cannot implement the same thing when recording videos using a still digital camera: It is just a point and a shoot and shoot gadget.
